Booking a Kayak

If you are interested in booking a trip, please give us a call on 250-726-2035 to reserve your kayaks. All kayak rentals must be reserved in advance and are not available for walk-in bookings. Children under the age of 16 MUST be in a double kayak with an adult (19+).

A group leader must qualify to rent by answering a few questions that will help us assess your knowledge and experience to be able to kayak in west coast waters and conditions.

Responsibilities of the Group Leader

  • We approve a group leader to rent the kayaks who provides information showing they have an understanding of the ocean conditions and skills needed for sea kayaking in west coast conditions and environment.
  • As we don’t ask each person in the group to go through the form, the person who is most experienced must assume responsibility for group safety on the water and care of the kayaks and equipment.
  • We ask that there is one skilled group leader per 5 people.
  • A waiver must be signed before using any Hello Nature Adventure Tours rental equipment and an additional form saying that they understand safety on land or water is the responsibility of the determined group leader.
  • Leaders must provide a trip plan with departure times
  • Leaders must provide details of where the group will be going
  • Leaders must provide a list of names and ages of all group members (minimum age is 5 years)

Kayak Rental Requirements
For safety reasons, we do not rent to solo paddlers. One person in each group of five must have the following skills and assume responsibility for the less experienced members of the group regarding safety decisions.

Kayak Training
Formal sea kayaking training is an asset to become approved to rent kayaks.

Prior Paddling Experience
At least one group member needs to be well versed in kayaking and have the experience to make decisions in the group’s best interests. We require that a group leader and other members have the basic judgement and experience to plan appropriate routes based on the skill levels of everyone participating.

Rescues
Renters must know how to do self and assisted capsize recovery and solo recovery with a paddle float.

Basic Navigation
At least one member of the group needs to be able to read a chart and understand where the landing zones and boat channels are, and how the currents flow. Winds and weather can be wild and unpredictable so the group leader should be checking long term forecasts to determine when the weather is going to be appropriate for departures and whether to stay put and wait it out.

We reserve the right to refuse any rental based on skill level, conditions and safety concerns.
