What to Wear

Did you know that preparing for your adventure is part of the adventure? Discover what you should wear on your kayaking journey.

What to Wear

Ucluelet kayaking trips can be warm and cold all at once thanks to constantly changing weather patterns- so we recommend being prepared. It is the wild coast, after all. At a minimum, we suggest layering your clothes..

Kayaking Clothing Suggestions

  • A long-sleeve breathable shirt that’s good in hot and cold climates to protect you from the cold and the sun.
  • Long pants or trousers that are breathable and stretchy – ideally they are also waterproof, but this isn’t necessary as you’ll be wearing a paddling skirt.
  • A change of shorts in case the weather warms up.
  • Fleece jacket or wool sweater that can be removed if too warm.
  • Rain jacket – you never know on the west coast.
  • Warm socks made of breathable materials such as wool. You may want to bring an alternative pair as well.
  • Shoes that you’re comfortable getting wet in such as sturdy strappy sandals, water shoes, or rubber boots.
  • Sunhat or baseball cap and a warm wool or fleece hat.
  • Kayaking gloves (optional)
